Keeping Your Credit Report Clear

A clear credit report is important when it comes to receiving loans in the future. If your credit report reflects a negative credit history, you will have a difficult time acquiring loans or receiving credit cards. Or, if you do receive a loan or credit card, the interest rate is likely to be very high. Therefore, you should check your credit card on a regular basis in order to make sure your credit card is accurately portraying your financial history.

Legally, you are entitled to receive one free copy of your credit report every year. If you have been turned down for a loan or refused employment based on your credit history, you may also receive a free copy of your credit report. Of course, you may also receive a credit report at any time by paying a small fee.

Take advantage of your free credit report and check it to make sure it does not contain inaccurate information. Even the smallest error can have a large impact on your overall credit rating. Make sure your name, address, and employment history are correct. In addition, check all of your accounts to make sure they show that you are in good standing. If they do not show you in good standing, but you know that you are, contact the credit reporting agency to have the mistake corrected as soon as possible.
